New design brings new attitude

“I watch the sun as it comes up, I watch it as it sets. Yes, this is as good as it gets.” On the I-17, returning from a day of skiing and snowboarding in Flagstaff, Arizona. We watched the sun both rise and set that day.

Recently this website has slowed down some. There are several reasons for that, but one of the main reasons was that I hated the way it looked. For months — maybe as long as 7 months— I have been wanting a new design. At first I thought I could do everything from scratch, from design to development. I convinced myself I would get around to doing it, until eventually the site just became a reminder of my procrastination.

Also, while I know some WordPress development, I came to realize I did not possess the skills to fully breakdown the site design and have the WordPress functionality that I wanted. I hope to one day be THAT good, but until then I’ll resort to the amazing fountain of resources available on this thing called Internet. So here’s the result… for now.

Ragged Edge business card

I’ve done a little be of business card design here and there, so I was excited when my friend Vance wanted to me get involved with the redesign of his.

This was the first time I was designing around an existing typeface, and I think it’s a bit more challenging (not a bad thing, really) than just starting out with a blank slate. It forces you to think creatively while still maintaining the client’s current business identity.

Vance wanted something different, yet still professional. I think the diagonal works with the concept and it’s not “too much”. Feel free to leave any feedback.

Also, how’s this for business card design inspiration? Some of those are beyond sweet.

I’m excited to be getting these freelance projects where I can spread my wings and do something different (and profitable, woohoo!).

Spread the word, babies, momma’s got a sailing trip to pay for. More on that later, at which time I hope you will be as excited as I am!

Sterling Audio Video

First freelance web design project.

My client already had a website but it was definitely outdated, so I updated everything about it including the logo. I’ve learned so much doing this project (HTML, CSS, PHP), I’m ready to tackle more freelance business! I already have some people interested so who knows, my empire could be taking off, ha!

Click on the image to go check out the site, and do let me know what you think and if you find any broken links or things that don’t seem to work quite right. I’ll admit, I’m a newbie at putting together entire business-oriented websites, and I have a ton to learn when it comes to SEO and things of that nature. That said, sometimes newbies are the best because we’re totally dedicated and motivated to make sure our few projects come out excellent.

Honestly, I would DIE for Sterling Audio Video. Do I smell a business motto? Here’s to getting more web design savvy in 2010!

Also, because I love my clients, I threw in new business card design.
