Seattle Part 2

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

After editing my photos, I usually save them 1) full size color, 2) full size black and white, and 3) low res in whichever it looks better (color or bw). Usually it’s pretty easy to decided in which mode they look better in, but I struggled with some of these.

Our tour continues…

Before we even got to the hostel, we had to stop and take some photos. Again, this was at a pier right across the street from the hostel.

Can I just say that I’m saving my photos all the same size, but for some reason Wordpress is making the color ones smaller that the BW ones. Anybody know anything on that? Also, the color/contrast is somewhat off from what they look like when I edit them, which I’m sure is related to some very technical Photoshop/format/monitor calibration deal, but doesn’t bother me too much… yet.

Pike Place Market, where they throw the fish (I have an action shot coming on a later post!).

Among the things we found at the market: Rub with Love.

Requisite photo of the very first Starbucks. I hear they organize pilgrimages from all over the world to this location*.

*I may have made that up.

The locks over in Ballard. Or as I call them: Wannabe Panama Canal.

Relaxing in a cafe in Freemont, where I had the best frozen drink/coffee ever. It was so good, I had to take a picture of it. No joke…

Discovery Park. This is one of those photos that I struggled between BW and Color. The cloudy light was just perfect, I thought.

Now, I don’t know about you guys, but when I think about qualities that I want my hotel to have, ‘fireproof’ definitely jumps to the top of the list… Really? The folks at the Bush Hotel though that was one of their best amenities?

“Ma’am, I’m sorry that we don’t have working toilets, clean towels, room service, insulation, heating, etc., but we ARE fireproof”

And finally (for now), what I think is a very iconic image of Seattle…

…the rain.

There’s still more coming up, so keep checking back, definitely any feedback on the photos in always appreciated!

Seattle Part 1

Back from Seattle and I have a ton of photos to go through and edit. I didn’t notice that I was taking photos in RAW… but I’m glad I did because they came out way better than I thought! I’ve never really been a RAW believer, mostly because I can’t afford to buy large enough memory cards, but I don’t know, I’m starting to see the light.

Just wanted to post a few photos for now… more about the trip to come!

The pier across the street from the hostel.

Pike Place market had all these flowers for like five bucks or so. If I lived there, I would totally go every week to get some fresh flowers for my place.

These are only in the first two folders of one camera, so there’s lots more coming up.

Project is up!

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

The project that I did the pampered pups photoshoot for is finally up on azcentral.com, so go check it out even if you have already seen it, so I can get more hits!  Go to azcentral.com/pets and scroll down to the black menu looking sidebar, it’s called Pampered Pups.

Or go to this link although I’m not sure if those visits count as hits. Eh, either way go check it out! This project tested my Photoshop skills to no end, well, at least my cutout skills. Major thanks go to Actionscript maven Dan Kempton for helping me figure out how to add all the items up.

I’ve been trying to find stuff!

Props go out to Michelle for calling me out on my lack of posting. In all fairness, it is a combination of lazyness and nothing too exciting happening here at Chateau Lapadula. I haven’t covered any major concerts, but I’ll ask Meister about shooting Sigur Ros in September, though they hate the media and would not shock me if they didn’t allow any photogs in.

But there are some exciting things coming up! I’m heading up to Seattle on the 23rd for a much needed vacation, and I think many an exciting photo will come out of that. Also, get ready people, I will be making my Las Vegas debut in September for the SND conference. Now that is sure up the level of crazy on this website.

Last Friday, thanks to a tip from Dana, we headed over to the San Carlos hotel in downtown Phoenix for a pool party slash concert with two bands I’ve featured on this site before, Princess Ladyfriend (they have an actual website and not just some MySpace! Go them!) and, my personal favorite, Black Carl. This was Princess Ladyfriend’s last gig ever here in Phoenix, since they’re relocating to Seattle, apparently. And, sadly, Black Carl’s guitarist/keyboardist is departing the band, though I hope they don’t totally break up. Both bands were great, but Princess took a long ass time to get going… I wouldn’t personally go in a bathing suit and get in the pool like some people did, but it was nice to dip our feet in it.

Princess Ladyfriend’s last Phoenix show.

Black Carl’s Emma Pew inciting the sweaty, half naked crowd

He had the skinniest jeans I have ever seen on a male. Not flattering at all! He makes it up though with awesome guitar playing.

I few months ago I went over to Modified Arts to check out Tilly and the Wall, who in theory sounded like an pretty different and interesting band. They have a tap dancer instead of a drummer, how cool is that!? Unfortunately, the show was riddled with technical difficulties, combined with the absurd heat inside Modified, it was tough to find the motivation to try and get better photos, because moving might have meant death by dehydration.

I did capture this bit of unfortunate fashion…

Last but not least…. a photo of the yet-to-start Lightrail here in the PHX. This is their latest attempt in making the downtown a more accessible and vibrant one, I guess. Let’s hope it works…
